開業故事 Story of Us

在數碼時代說開書店，好像有點癡人說夢話。

作為一個離散人，我所慣用的思考模式是把東西連結起來，好讓我能追溯到一些家的根源。就如製作釘畫一樣，從一塊完好的木板切割出來，依照著一些模樣作為憑據，賦予木板一個新的意義和回憶。

至於開書店這回事，我想將我開書店的夢想、您的閱讀方式以及書本的本質意義，繫上波浪符號「～」。

我希望書友在星葉書房可以有屬於自己的思考空間，尋找需要的靈感或答案，甚至能為生活注入能量，補給心靈上的需要。

後記：
跟身邊的人說開書店，他們一般都是擔心我的生計。可能他們都知道我有著非一般的倔強，他們並沒有當頭棒喝和制止我；又可能他們知道，我總會找到出路。

Opening an independent bookshop in a digital era may seem somewhat a bizarre idea.

With a diasporic background, I am used to grouping different events and connecting the dots to see the big picture, so that I can navigate my way to “home”. This mindset reminds me of making string art — a piece of wooden board transformed into a meaningful art piece based on the artist’s imagination and conviction.

I hope to redefine reading with my independent bookshop, accentuating the very nature of books and your ways of reading.

To my SLers, I hope you can always enjoy your me-time at Star Leaf Books (SLB) and leave full of inspiration and ideas. More importantly, I want SLB to be a retreat for your souls.

梳邦再也 Subang Jaya

梳邦再也是雪蘭莪州其中一個最成熟的城巿。走進梳邦社區 (USJ, Subang)，最讓我感受深刻的是這裏的溫情。與保衛我們家園的 abang 問好、駛過熟悉的道路、到 kopitiam 吃著我們的國民美食和水⋯⋯ 這些日常的生活片段都是我們和社區之間互動的憑據。

縱使如此，我仍有感這個社區好像缺乏了些什麼——一間書店。

沒錯，有不少獨立書店位於雪蘭莪和吉隆坡，例如季風帶和 Booku等等。假若我們想走進書海的世界，也可以到跨國連鎖店如大眾、誠品和蔦屋書店。此外，我們也能偶爾到書展和文創巿集逛逛，常在梳邦舉辦的巿集包括平民巿集和有你巿集。

至於USJ 社區呢？我們似乎還能以一間獨立書店的形式去為這塊文化的版圖出一分力。

星葉書房希望成為大家的補燃站，希望大家來這裏看書、創作、療癒⋯⋯尋找您想要的東西。

When I walk into our USJ, Subang neighborhood, a homey atmosphere is what attracts me the most as Subang Jaya is one of the most mature cities. The usual greetings with abang, the familiar routes we pass by, the everyday kopitiam we go for food and drink, etc. All of these form a part of our collective memories that connect us with our community.

Yet I sometimes feel something is missing from our community — a bookshop. We have plenty of independent bookshops, especially the Chinese ones, in other districts in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, such as Monsoon Books, Booku and so on. If we want to immerse ourselves in a world of books, we can go to transnational chain stores like Popular, Eslite, Tsutaya Books and so on. An alternative would be some occasional cultural markets and book fairs like You Ni Market and Pingmin Market.

What about us? Can we have one more local independent bookshop in USJ, Subang?

Star Leaf Books would like to be a ‘refuel’ station for everyone who is in search of something.
